Bookkeeping categories
What category is Clover in bookkeeping?
A Clover payout into your bank is usually Sales Revenue. Even Margin categorizes it that way and asks you to confirm it. Money going to Clover can be a fee, a refund or a purchase, so Even Margin uses your bank's category for it, or asks you when the bank gives none.
What Clover charges are
Clover is a card terminal and payments service for shops and restaurants. It pays your card sales out to your bank after its fees.
How Even Margin categorizes Clover
Sales Revenue. Payouts categorized, then sent to your review list.
- Even Margin recognizes Clover on your bank transaction, using the merchant list its team curates.
- A Clover payout into your bank is categorized as Sales Revenue at medium confidence and goes to your review list to confirm.
- Money going to Clover takes your bank's category for it. When the bank gives none, it goes to your review list for you to choose.
When a different category fits
Whatever category you pick for a Clover transaction stays: Even Margin never overwrites a choice you made.
- A refund from a Clover terminal to a customer is Sales Returns & Refunds.
- Clover's monthly software fee, charged on its own, is Online Software.
- A Clover terminal bought outright is Office Supplies & Equipment, or wherever your accountant keeps larger purchases.
My statement says CLV* after I paid a shop. What is that?
That shop took your card on a Clover terminal. Even Margin counts the purchase as the shop and never as Clover, and your bank's category for it decides, so supplies can land in Office Supplies & Equipment. See what other statement codes mean.
Why is my Clover deposit smaller than my sales?
Clover keeps its processing fees before it deposits, and refunds come out too. Clover's deposit report lists what was taken from each one.
